Munich, September 11, 2026 – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has committed to investing ten billion Euros in Bavaria, marking a significant economic partnership. This announcement came after a meeting between Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU) and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan in Munich. The investment agreement aims to channel funds into key future industries, including aerospace, artificial intelligence, and defense.

Historic State Visit and Economic Boost

Minister-President Söder emphasized the potential impact of this investment, stating, “This brings cash, it brings orders, it naturally also brings economic growth.” He expressed optimism that the funds would provide an additional “boost for the Bavarian economy.” The visit by President Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan is particularly notable as it marks the first time a UAE President has visited Germany.

The UAE had previously announced a total of 40 billion Euros in investments across Germany, with Bavaria securing a quarter of that substantial sum. Söder described the visit as “perhaps already a bit historical,” highlighting its importance for Bavaria and international relations.

Focus on Key Growth Sectors

The strategic allocation of the ten billion Euro investment underscores a shared vision for technological advancement and economic diversification. By targeting sectors like aerospace, artificial intelligence, and defense, both Bavaria and the UAE aim to foster innovation and create new opportunities. These industries are considered critical drivers of future economic prosperity and technological leadership.

High-Level Reception and Future Engagements

President Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan commenced his two-day state visit to Germany on Thursday. In Munich, he was greeted with a ceremonial reception at the Kaiserhof in the Munich Residenz, featuring an honor guard from the Bavarian police and a red carpet. The Bavarian-Emirati harmony was even noted in their footwear, as both Söder and the President were observed wearing the same model of sports shoes.

Following the reception, the UAE President signed the guest book of the Bavarian State Government. Children from the Bavarian Trachtenverband presented the state guest with a large gingerbread heart, symbolizing Bavarian hospitality. Later in the day, Söder and his guest attended an economic forum at the Festsaal of the Bayerischer Hof, hosted by Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU).

Söder’s Upcoming Visit to the UAE

In a reciprocal gesture, Minister-President Söder announced that he has received a “counter-invitation” and plans to travel to the United Arab Emirates and the wider Arab region later this year. The primary objective of this trip will be to “significantly expand” economic relations between Bavaria and the region. A previously scheduled trip in April 2022 had to be canceled due to Söder testing positive for the coronavirus.

This exchange of high-level visits and significant investment commitments signals a strengthening of economic and diplomatic ties between Bavaria and the United Arab Emirates, with a clear focus on mutual growth and future-oriented industries.
